He was medically retired. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and moral injury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He attempted suicide three times, but recently passed away 15 months ago due to a stomach illness he picked up in Iraq. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among his awards, he received a Purple Heart badge in the combat infantry. My family knows all too well the effects of war on these young men.
